I live in Gangnam. Not in the "Gangnam Style" party district — in the quieter blocks south of Gangnam Station where the dermatology clinics cluster. I walk through this neighborhood daily, and after years of navigating it for clients, I can map it with my eyes closed.
Here's the local's guide to Seoul's dermatology district — the layout, the landmarks, and the practical details that no travel blog covers.
The Geography
Seoul's dermatology district isn't a single street — it's a zone spanning roughly 2.5 kilometers from Gangnam Station (Line 2) to Sinsa Station (Line 3). The highest concentration sits along Gangnam-daero and the commercial side streets branching off it, with premium clinics extending north into Cheongdam and Apgujeong.
Within this zone, you'll find over 500 dermatology and aesthetic clinics. For context: that's more skin clinics in one neighborhood than most American cities have total.
Area by Area
Gangnam Station Exit 10–11
The epicenter. Step out of Exit 10 or 11 and you'll see clinic signage stacked five stories high on every building. This area has the highest density and the widest price range — from budget franchise clinics to serious specialist practices. The commercial buildings along Gangnam-daero between exits 10 and 12 house dozens of clinics on upper floors. Don't be fooled by ground-level appearances — some of the best clinics are on the 7th or 12th floor of unremarkable buildings.
Sinsa / Garosugil
A 15-minute walk north of Gangnam Station (or one subway stop). Garosugil is Seoul's tree-lined boutique street — think West Village meets Gangnam. Clinics here are smaller, more boutique, and slightly more expensive. The neighborhood also has excellent coffee shops and restaurants, making it easy to combine a clinic visit with a pleasant afternoon.
Cheongdam / Apgujeong
The luxury tier. Cheongdam-dong houses Seoul's most prestigious clinics — many celebrity-frequented. Facilities are immaculate, service is impeccable, and prices reflect the premium positioning. If you're combining dermatology with a luxury shopping day (Dior flagship, Gentle Monster, Korean designer boutiques), this is your area.
Seocho (South Side)
Just south of Gangnam Station, Seocho is more residential and less touristed. Clinics here often have a more local patient base, which can translate to better value — less marketing overhead, more competitive pricing. The trade-off is less English-language support.
Practical Tips
- Lunch near clinics: Most clinics have a lunch break (1:00–2:00 PM). Plan your clinic visit for morning or afternoon, and use the break for food. The side streets behind Gangnam Station have incredible Korean restaurants — most under ₩12,000 per meal.
- Coffee between appointments: If you have two clinic visits in one day, the Gangnam/Sinsa area has excellent coffee. Blue Bottle, Fritz, and dozens of Korean specialty roasters are within walking distance.
- K-beauty shopping nearby: Olive Young's Gangnam flagship is at Gangnam Station. The Garosugil area has independent K-beauty boutiques with curated selections. For luxury, Sulwhasoo and Amore Pacific flagships are in Dosan Park (walkable from Sinsa).
